Jaevon Walker

Jaevon Walker pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated DUI before Judge James Chaney.

With the approval of the victim’s family, Chaney sentenced Walker to 25 years, with 10 years to serve.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Warren represented the state.

Court testimony showed Walker was the driver of a vehicle carrying Amaris Baker, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the crash.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to free Baker from the vehicle, and AirCare was called to assist. Walker, who was not at the scene when responders arrived, later admitted to being the driver. He told authorities he fell asleep at the wheel and lost control. Medical records showed he tested positive for marijuana.

In exchange for pleading guilty, the state dropped the second DUI Aggravated charge.
