MADISON, Miss.(VDN)— Vicksburg native Mikey Johnson has recently racked up his share of football scholarship as he is heading into his senior year. The Germantown High School athlete stars in the secondary for the Mavericks where he has quickly made a name for himself.

Johnson, a standout defensive back at Germantown High School, has seen his recruitment heat up over the past year. He received his first Division I offer from Jackson State University last summer. Since then, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound playmaker has added offers from several junior colleges across Mississippi, including Hinds Community College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, East Mississippi Community College and East Central Community College.

Before transferring to Germantown, Johnson played the 2023 season at Vicksburg High School under head coach Christopher Lacey. During his sophomore year, he recorded 16 tackles, five pass deflections, four interceptions, one blocked kick and a touchdown. His performance earned him selections to both the Vicksburg Daily News All-County Team and the All-District Team.

In 2024, Johnson moved to Germantown High School, where he helped lead the Mavericks to a 7-5 record and a second-round playoff appearance under head coach Russell Mitchell. Johnson was a force in the secondary, finishing the season with 40 tackles, 14 pass deflections, one forced fumble and just three touchdowns allowed in coverage.

In addition to football, Johnson played a key role on the Germantown basketball team that captured a state championship in 2025.

Now preparing for his senior campaign, Johnson is expected to draw additional interest from college programs as he continues to develop into a top-tier defensive prospect in the Magnolia State.
