Vicksburg’s Davian Williams scored 21 points against LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Davian Williams scored 21 points against Louisiana State University on Tuesday night. Williams, who plays for Alcorn State University, hit six 3-pointers in the 107-81 loss to the Tigers. 

Davian’s performance kept the game tight as Alcorn only trailed 50-44 at halftime.

Williams is a 2024 graduate of Vicksburg High School and a two-time recipient of the VDN Player of the Year Award.

Alcorn State battled throughout the night but came up short in a 107–81 road loss to LSU on Tuesday evening at the Maravich Assembly Center. The Braves opened the game with energy, trading early baskets and shooting nearly 50 percent from the field, but LSU’s size and efficiency around the rim proved difficult to overcome down the stretch.

Davian Williams led Alcorn State with 21 points, knocking down six three-pointers as he continued his strong start to the season. He was joined in double figures by Travis Roberts, who added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Nick Woodard, who scored 11 points with three rebounds. Mike Jones provided a strong inside presence with 10 points and five boards, while Jeremy Elliscontributed four points and a steal off the bench.

Alcorn State shot 33-of-67 from the field and connected on 10 three-pointers, hanging tough in a high-tempo matchup. The Braves’ bench produced 56 points, highlighted by the efforts of Williams, Roberts, and Jones. However, LSU capitalized in the paint with 58 points and converted 31 free throws to maintain control in the second half.

The Braves return to action on November 23 when they travel to Oklahoma, continuing their early-season road stretch.
