Vikings advance to North State for the second year in a row

GRENADA, Miss.(VDN)—For the second year in a row, the Warren Central High School baseball team advances to North State. The Vikings’ moving on to North State became official on Monday night after defeating Grenada 5-3 in game two.

WC got on the board in the first inning when Maddox Lynch hit a 2-run home run to put the Vikings up 2-0. The Vikings would repeat the same action in the fourth inning when Trace Hood stepped up to the plate and smashed a 2-run homerun to put WC up 4-0.

By the fifth inning, Grenada crept their way back into the game after earning three runs. Klinck hit a 2-run single for the Chargers just before Edwards sacrificed to bring in the third run.

By the time the seventh inning rolled around, WC managed to get on the board one final time. After Lynch hit a double, Hood singled to bring in their last run that put the score at 5-3.

Caden Cole stepped up in the seventh to put the game away on the mound as he struck out two batters. Lynch pitched early in the game and struck out three batters while Justin Greer came in and struck out two.

Hood went 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Lynch went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Ryan Steed finished the game with one hit.

In game one, WC took down Grenada 8-2 on Saturday to put themselves ahead in the series. Before defeating the Chargers in the second round, the Vikings beat Center Hill to advance. They won 11-1 in game one and turned around and gained another victory with the final score of 8-1.
