VJHS is heading to the Little Six Championship Game

Vicksburg Junior High School boy’s basketball team is headed back to the Little Six Championship after defeating Clinton on Saturday.

Corbin Walker popped things off with a 3-pointer followed by a few free throws. Deonta Selvy Jr. nailed a 3-pointer and two more layups to help VJHS go up 16-11.

The Arrows managed to keep the game tight in the second quarter as Jaquez Jones came out with a layup but Clinton’s A. Thomas knocked down a few shots. A. Chiplin also hit a hard shot for VJHS while Selvy hit a buzzer shot that was eventually taken away that gave the Gators a 29-20 lead.

Clinton started the third quarter with a 3-pointer while the Gators struggled to score. With 1:48 left in the quarter, Jones got VJHS on the board which was followed by a shot from Selvy that put the Gators up 35-25.

VJHS took a big lead in the fourth quarter as Walker stole the ball twice and scored on both attempts. Jayden Stewart and Jones both hit shots in the final quarter while Selvy nailed a buzzer 3-pointer to give the Gators a 55-31 win.

Jones led with 22 points and Selvy came right behind him with 20. Walker finished with seven points while Jayden Stewart, Jaylen Stewart and Chiplin all had two points.

The Gators(15-0) are coached by Jerdon Hardiman and they will face Germantown at Old Town Middle School on Monday.
