VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — With the 2025–2026 school year set to begin Friday, Aug. 1, the Vicksburg Warren School District is reminding parents and guardians that student registration is mandatory and must be completed before students can attend class or ride the school bus.

“We’re not having the traction that we need to see with our online registration,” said Dr. Cedric Magee, deputy superintendent of VWSD, during a meeting with local faith leaders earlier this week. “They must be registered to be enrolled, before we give them a class. We have computers at the schools if [parents] need to upload things. We have people there that can help them do that, but we need everybody registered.”

Associate Superintendent Eric Green added that fewer than 50% of students have been registered so far.

Some confusion, officials said, may stem from the fact that all students must be registered annually—regardless of whether or not they were enrolled in the previous school year.

Why registration matters:

  • Ensures accurate bus routes and schedules
  • Helps schools prepare class rosters, teacher assignments, and materials
  • Allows families to receive important school updates
  • Provides critical health, emergency, and contact information

Who needs to register:

  • All new and returning students This includes students entering Pre-K, kindergarten, and those advancing to junior high or high school

How to register:

Required documents:

  • Two proofs of residency
  • Parent/guardian photo ID
  • Updated immunization records (for Pre-K and kindergarten)
  • Previous school records (if transferring)
