Warren Central girls’ soccer team shutout VHS 8-0
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s girls’ soccer team grabbed an 8-0 shutout victory over crosstown rival Vicksburg High School on Friday night. The Lady Vikes took control early, with sophomore standout Jordan Polk leading the way with a hat trick.
“Our first game wasn’t too good, so it feels great to bounce back and have a better game,” Polk said. “It didn’t feel good to lose, and VHS is obviously our rival. Even though they’re not in our district, we still want to do the best we can.”
Warren Central bounced back strong from an 8-0 loss to Brandon earlier in the week, proving they’re still one of the toughest teams in the area.
Polk scored the first goal within two minutes of the game. By the 15-minute mark, the Lady Vikes had built a 5-0 lead with goals from Laney Bull, Mary Clell Allred and Polk. Before halftime, Polk completed her hat trick to make it 7-0.
The second half was shortened to 10 minutes due to the mercy rule. During that time, eighth grader Braylee Lyons netted her first varsity goal to seal the 8-0 win.
Polk finished with three goals, while Bull and Allred added two each. Lyons scored once. For Vicksburg, goalkeeper Harmony Harris tallied five saves.
Both teams will travel Saturday to compete in the Laurel Tournament.
