Vicksburg boys open soccer season with 7-0 win over McLaurin

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s boys soccer team opened its season with a dominant 7-0 shutout victory over McLaurin on Tuesday night. The Gators, led by Head Coach Maurice Gilliam, start the year 1-0 after an all-around strong performance.

“They came out and did what they had to do, so I couldn’t be more proud of them for last night,” Gilliam said.

Dacion Brown led the Gators with three goals in the win, while Cannon Jackson added two. Abel Gonzalez and Allan Allen each scored one goal to round out the effort. Goalkeeper Arthur Davis recorded two saves in the shutout.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Gators fell 1-0 to McLaurin despite a solid defensive performance. Goalkeeper Harmony Harris tallied eight saves in the loss.
