VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central High School ninth grade football team improved to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 20-6 road victory over Clinton.

Doss Morgan opened the game with a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. The game was tied at 6-6 until the fourth quarter, but Warren Central pulled away late win. Jordan Taylor scored on a 15-yard run and Cam Zellous added a two-point conversion to make it 14-6. Braylen Selvy sealed the win with a 23-yard touchdown run.

“By far it was not our best game as far as executing our game plan,” ninth grade head coach Matt Williams said. “Our kids faced adversity and then took over in the second half. The defense caused two turnovers in the second half while the kickoff team had a fumble recovery and some big tackles that pinned Brandon deep.”

“Our kids gutted out that win and it was great to see them continue to fight all night and not quit,” Williams added. “They have worked really hard to be 4-0 and in the driver’s seat of our side of the Little 6. We learned a lot from this game about how mentally tough you need to be to be successful. It was good to see the team respond in the second half the way they did.”
