WC captures a win over Saltillo to advance to the second round

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)—After taking a loss on the road last Saturday, Warren Central’s softball team bounced back to capture a 3-2 win over Saltillo in game three on Monday. Tonight’s win kept the Lady Vikes season alive as they will hit the road on Thursday for round two.
KeKe McKay pitched the first six innings where she managed to strike out four batters, respectfully.

“We did good defensively and our bats eventually showed up offensively,” McKay said. “We knew we needed to win this game so our fans kept up motivated the whole way and that played a big part of it.”
The Lady Tigers got on the board first from a single in the third but WC denied any more runs in that inning after a successful double play when Emily Muirhead launched the ball to MK Ferguson for an out. After a single from Mary Clell Allred, WC picked up two runs to take the lead after McKay and Maddy Pant both hit RBIs.

WC grabbed another successful double play in the fourth when Allred connected with Kennadi Williams. Addi Mullen got on base from hitting a ground ball just before stealing second base. She eventually stole home plate after a passed ball to give the Lady Vikes a 3-1 lead.
Saltillo got on the board for a final time in the fifth after Skelton hit a solo home run to put the score at 3-2.
By the time the final inning crept around, Pant came in to pitch for WC as she quickly put the game away.

WC will now advance to the second round to face South Panola who is one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
“We just got to go in and play hard because our season isn’t over,” McKay added.
Allred and Keen each had a hit while Pant and McKay both had an RBI. Pant struck out one batter.
