WCJHS receives their basketball championship rings

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—The Warren Central Junior High School boys’ basketball team received their championship rings on Friday afternoon. The ceremony was held in honor of the team that won the Little Six Championship back in December.

The WCJHS basketball gym was packed with students and parents yesterday to witness the athletes being honored for their hard work this school year. Head Coach Charles Swartz, along with assistant coaches Kensell Batty and Victor Tyrone, opened the ceremony by highlighting some of the team’s accomplishments.

After the audience heard from the coaching staff and the school administration, it was time for the boys to receive their championship rings that they had long waited for since the end of the season. Each player, coach, and team manager received the bling they placed on their fingers as their names were called.

During the ceremony, the basketball team received rings, wind jackets, and a blue hoodie, which all had “Little Six Champions” written on them. 

About the team:

Back on December 21, 2024, WCJHS defeated Pearl 39-29 in the Little Six Championship. The game went back and forth between the two teams until the Vikings secured the win in the final quarter. Ja’Ven Lee led with 11 points in the championship game while Jordan Taylor finished with eight on the board.

Doss Morgan and Braylen Selvy both scored six points, and Henry Trisby contributed five, while Jordan Younger put up two points. 

The Vikings were led by Swartz, who won his first Little Six Title as a Head Basketball Coach. He was also selected as VDN’s Junior High Basketball Coach of the Year. Many members of the basketball team also played on the football team, which also won the Little Championship. That was the first time since 1991 that WCJHS has won a football and basketball championship in the same year.
