VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The finals for the Miss Mississippi Teen Contest happened today at the Ardis T. Williams Auditorium in Vicksburg.
A new Miss Mississippi Teen was crowned: Miss Madison County, Avery McNair. For the talent section of the contest, she played the Jerry Lee Lewis hit, “Great Balls of Fire.” Her Petite Magnolia Belles stole the show in the finals, blowing kisses to the audience to uproarious applause.
The 1st Runner Up was Miss Capital City, Blake Hart.
McNair also won the Health and Fitness category on Saturday Night and took the Talent win in Saturday afternoon’s competition. Hart won the Saturday Night preliminary in Talent and tied with Miss Lafayette County, Madalyn Sullivan, in Saturday afternoon’s Health and Fitness competition.
The Miss Mississippi Teen competition awards scholarships for young women to go to college and further their education. The organization empowers young women to be their best through leadership, talent, communication skills, and intelligence. The first competition in Mississippi was held in 2005 and won by Natalie Wood. Wood was present at today’s event to cheer on the next generation of young women.
