16-year-old Mississippi High School football player died

FORREST COUNTY, Miss.(VDN) — A 16-year-old Mississippi high school football player has died after reportedly suffering an aneurysm.

Carter Bourque, a student-athlete at Forrest County Agricultural High School in Forrest County, died Jan. 7. He was a member of the school’s football team and a sophomore at the time of his death.

“We are grateful to everyone who has extended their condolences and support during this difficult time. As we grieve, we ask that you keep the Bourque family, along with the students and staff of FCAHS, in your thoughts and prayers,” school officials said.

A GoFundMe account was established to help support Bourque’s family with expenses. Funeral services for Bourque were held Saturday.

Bourque was remembered by family, friends and teammates as a young man who loved football and was deeply involved in his school and community. His death has prompted an outpouring of support across Forrest County and beyond.

Bourque’s obituary:

Carter Ryan Bourque was born on September 15, 2009 and left this world and into the arms of our Heavenly Father on January 7, 2026 at the age of 16.

Carter was preceded in death by his grandmother Nancy Bourque. He is survived by his father, Ryan Bourque; His mother Kandise Courtney. ; Brother Aidon Bourque; Brother Logan Bost; Grandmother Selita Shimp; Grandfather Robert Courtney, and a host of very special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who are far too many to name.

Carter was a Sophomore at Forrest County AHS where he was a member of the football team. He spent many years playing ball for local leagues and school teams, all of whom played a monumental role in his life.

He was a member of Fellowship Chapel in Brooklyn, MS.

Carter was loved and cherished by so many and his loss will be felt enormously.
