601 Bulls Win HoopFest Nationals with perfect record
RUSTON, LA. (VDN) — The 601 Bulls won the HoopFest Nationals over the weekend in Ruston, Louisiana, finishing the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.
The event ran from Saturday through Sunday, with the Bulls picking up two wins on Saturday. They defeated RWIIK Elite 47-11 and followed that with a 45-30 win over LA Magic Elite.
Head Coach Sherman Logan said this tournament had been a season-long goal for the team.
“All year we had several goals, but the main goal was to win Nationals—and that’s just what we did,” Logan said. “We came, we saw, we conquered. Now the 601 Bulls are national champions, and it’s a great feeling to be part of something so positive in these kids’ lives.”
On Sunday, the Bulls edged out 6th Man 62-60 in the semifinals, thanks to a buzzer-beating layup by Henry Trisby. They closed out the tournament with a 58-49 win over 5 Star Hoops to clinch the championship.
“Every game we played was a collective effort, especially the semifinal game,” Logan said. “Like I’ve been saying all year, these guys are just like that. I always build my teams as a family, and even though these kids go to different schools—WC and Vicksburg—they’ve formed a brotherhood on this team. I’m pretty sure when school ball starts all that stuff is out the window, but come February, when we come back together, they’ll be cool again.”
