VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The DREAM Community Champions Summer program is collecting food, toiletries, and daily essentials—including socks, sack lunch items, and deodorant—as part of a summer donation drive in partnership with the Vicksburg Police and Fire Departments.

“Most of the feeding programs in Vicksburg end around late June or early July, and we must ensure that our kids are fed until school starts,” said Alderman Mayfield in a statement. “The DREAM Community Champions Summer program has partnered with VPD and VFD to deliver lunches and toiletries to our school-aged children this summer from July 11 to August 1, and we could use your help with donations and volunteering! Please contact me if you would like to become a partner.”

Donations are being accepted now through Aug. 1, and the public is encouraged to contribute food items and toiletries.

Items needed include:

Food:

  • Chips
  • Bottled water
  • Packaged fruit
  • Granola bars
  • Sack lunch items

Toiletries:

  • Soap
  • Lotion
  • Toothpaste
  • Hairbrushes and combs
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Deodorant

Drop-off locations:

  • Alderman T.J. Mayfield’s Office — 1401 Walnut St., Suite 308
  • Vicksburg Police Department — 820 Veto St.
  • Vicksburg Warren Youth Development Center — 2020 Mission 66

In addition to donated goods, financial contributions are being accepted by the United Way of West Central Mississippi to further support the effort.
