EDMONTON, Alberta(VDN)— Vicksburg native Nick Anderson has signed a one-year contract extension with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League, securing his place with the team through the 2026 season.

The standout linebacker made an immediate impact in his rookie year and has quickly become a cornerstone of the Elks’ defense. The organization expressed excitement about Anderson’s continued development and presence in the locker room.

“We believe Nick is a rising young player in this league and fits the mold of the type of person we want in our locker room and in our community,” said Elks vice president of football operations and general manager Ed Hervey. “We’re excited Nick has shown his commitment to the Green and Gold and the city of Edmonton for the next two years.”

Anderson led the CFL in total tackles during his rookie campaign, finishing with 116. That total ranks as the second most ever by a first-year player in league history. His performance earned him the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award in 2024.

He has picked up right where he left off. In a preseason game last weekend, Anderson recorded 10 tackles and was named player of the game.

Before turning pro, Anderson played college football at Jones College and then Tulane University, where he compiled 283 career tackles, 29 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. He is a graduate of Vicksburg High School in Mississippi.

The Elks are counting on Anderson to anchor their defense as they aim to rebound in the 2025 season.
