VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Four members of the Vicksburg High School basketball cheerleading team have been named captains for the upcoming season. Jordan Tillman will serve as head captain, while Nyla Henton, La’Porsha Hall and Myrianna Myles will serve as co-captains.
“I feel excited and blessed to be named as head captain,” Tillman said.
Tillman, a senior who has cheered since seventh grade, will be responsible for keeping the team organized as it cheers on the Gators. After graduation, she plans to attend either Grambling State University or Mississippi State University to major in business. She is the daughter of the late Ashante O’Neal and Shannon Tillman.
Myles, a senior in her third year of cheering, also looks forward to her leadership role. “I love being the co-captain and I love my girls,” she said. She is the daughter of Jenetria Williams and Myron Myles and plans to continue cheering at Hinds Community College next year.
Henton, a senior who has been cheering for four years, said she is ready to step into her role as co-captain. “This role gives me time to better myself and I love the leadership that this team has,” she said. After graduation, she plans to serve in the military. She is the daughter of Stacy Williams Henton and Calvin Henton Sr.
Hall, the lone junior among the captains, has been cheering for two years. “I feel good about being one of the captains and I plan to do a lot to help this team,” she said. She plans to attend Grambling State University after graduation. Hall is the daughter of Betty Hughes and Audrey Wilson.
The four captains will serve under first-year head coach Shalanda Harris.
