Board honors Antonia Flaggs Jones

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Today, Monday, Oct. 20, the Warren County Board of Supervisors (BOS) honored former county employee Antonia Flaggs Jones by passing a resolution in her honor.

At an early age, Jones began working at the Warren County Tax Collector’s Office. She worked for the office for 33 years and retired as the Warren County Tax Collector in December of 2023. Jones passed away earlier this month on Oct. 12 from illness.

Warren County BOS President Kelle Garfield presented the resolution to Mario Jones in remembrance of his late wife at the regularly held monthly meeting. Supervisors Edward Herring, William Banks, Jr., and John Carlisle joined Garfield after passing the resolution unanimously. District 3 Supervisor Shawn Jackson was not present for the meeting.

In a showing of support, friends, family, current Tax Collector Amanda Haggard Battle, and other members of the office were present to watch the proceedings.

After her retirement, Jones posted to social media, “As I reflect on my life, the citizens of Warren County have watched me grow, she said in the post. “I started as a little girl in the Tax Collector’s office. I found my supportive husband there, married, finished my college education, had my two beautiful children, survived cancer, and many other obstacles. But through it all Warren County has been good to me. Now it’s time to begin a new chapter in my life. After 33 years I would like to thank the many friends that I have made on this journey for your patience and kindness. Most importantly the good Lord for guiding every step of the way. I look forward to many new adventures that life has to offer. Thank you all and be blessed.”
