Vikings defeat Neshoba Central 2-0
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central High School’s boys’ soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Neshoba Central on Thursday night, overcoming roster challenges to secure the win.
The Vikings improved to 11-4-1 on the season while playing without two key starters, Jacob Porter and Charlie Esparza. Despite the absences, Warren Central relied on strong contributions from younger players and adjustments across the lineup to control the match against the Rockets.
“We had a lot of young players step up and played well,” Warren Central head coach Greg Head said. “Mohamed Shaibi came out of the goal to play defense and did a great job. Anthony Streif played goalkeeper. Ward came in and played right wing and did a great job for a freshman.”
Offensively, Jonah Artman led the Vikings, scoring both goals to provide all the scoring needed. Warren Central’s defense held firm throughout the match, preserving the shutout and limiting Neshoba Central’s scoring opportunities.
In the girls’ match, Warren Central fell 1-0 to Neshoba Central. The Lady Vikes dropped to 9-5 on the season after a tightly contested match that was decided by a single goal.
Warren Central will return to action on Monday when the Vikings and Lady Vikes travel to face Callaway.
