Lady Flashes push winning streak to four with victory over Humphreys Academy
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — St. Aloysius’(5-11) girls basketball team extended its winning streak to four games Monday night with a 45-27 victory over Humphreys Academy.
Taryn Lusby and Annslee Averett led the Lady Flashes in scoring, finishing in double figures. Lusby scored a game-high 17 points, while Averett added 12 points in the win.
“I’m very proud of how we executed and how we worked well as a team and put in a full effort,” Averett said.
St. Aloysius trailed 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but the game shifted in the second period. Lusby knocked down two 3-pointers in the quarter, and Averett scored six of her points during the stretch as the Lady Flashes outscored Humphreys Academy 17-2 to take a 23-9 lead into halftime.
Presley Carr and Kennadi Blassingame each connected on 3-pointers late in the game, and Farrell Roberson added two made free throws to help secure the victory. Blassingame finished with four points, Roberson scored four points, Carr added three points, Mallory Hobson scored three points, and Megan Theriot contributed two points.
The St. Aloysius junior high girls team also earned a win, defeating Humphreys Academy 16-12. Kelci Bingham led with 11 points, while Addy Hardaway scored three points. Reese Lyons and Analeigh Herring added two points each.
The St. Aloysius junior high boys team took a close 31-28 loss. Noah Ponder led the team with 10 points, followed by Reeves Sadler with six points. Kellen Crocker and Owen Mallard each scored four points, while Adam Dorbeck and Van Peeples finished with two points apiece.
