St. Francis sixth-grade boys, girls remain unbeaten after weekend wins
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The Saint Francis sixth-grade peewee girls basketball team remained undefeated this season following a successful weekend of play at Briarfield Academy and will compete for a championship next Saturday at Prairie View Academy.
Saint Francis earned a 17-10 victory in its opening game as Liza Newman led the way with 12 points. Maddy Tate scored four points, and Bryleigh Landers added one. In the next game, Saint Francis rolled to a 20-5 win behind a balanced scoring effort. Bryleigh Landers finished with eight points, Maddy Tate added six, Newman scored four, and Lyla McMillin contributed two points.
The Saint Francis sixth-grade boys team also stayed undefeated with two wins on Jan. 10. Saint Francis edged Briarfield Academy 23-21 as Clayton Carr scored a team-high 10 points. Everett Saddler added five points, Leyton Lambiotte finished with four, and Reid Ellis and Tyler Wade scored two points each.
Later that day, Saint Francis cruised past Union Christian 39-1. Leyton Lambiotte led all scorers with 10 points, while Carr added nine. Chase Hearn scored eight points, Everett Saddler and Joseph Lyons finished with four points apiece, and John Carter Wooten and Tyler Wade each scored two points.
The Saint Francis fourth-grade boys team also defeated Briarfield Academy. Dylan Radar led the team with eight points, while Kobe Henyard scored six. Michael Tate added three points, and Walker Ashley and Kai Goodman each finished with two points. The fourth-grade boys will play at Prairie View Academy for the Division II championship.
The fourth-grade boys are coached by James Goodman and Abe Kidder. The girls team is coached by Paul Moore, and the sixth-grade boys are coached by Brandon Carr.
