St. Aloysius defeats Porter’s Chapel Academy 62-25

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The St. Aloysius boys’ basketball team dominated crosstown rival Porter’s Chapel Academy with a 62-25 victory.

“I feel like today’s win was a good warmup to get us out of the slump we’ve been in,” St. Aloysius’ Carson Gleese said. “We just have to keep our confidence up and trust God.”

St. Aloysius jumped out to a 24-2 lead at the end of the first quarter as Gleese caught fire early, scoring 19 of his 23 points in the opening period. The Flashes extended their advantage to 35-16 by halftime, with Gleese, Garrod Bunch and Alan Stauts each knocking down 3-pointers in the second quarter. Walt Andrews added a layup for St. Aloysius. Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Will Lancaster connected on a 3-pointer, while Schaffer Bell scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the quarter.

The Flashes continued to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 53-18 lead. Stauts hit another 3-pointer, and Bunch scored nine points in the period. Tre Lee capped the scoring for St. Aloysius with a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter as the Flashes closed out the win.

Gleese finished with 23 points and recorded a double-double. Bunch added 14 points, Lee scored nine points, Stauts had six points, Andrews finished with four points, and Mac Connell, Grant Gattle and Sadler Lambiotte each contributed two points.

For Porter’s Chapel Academy, Bell scored 19 points, Lancaster added five points, and Corvin Finch finished with one point.
