Vicksburg High baseball team defeats Murrah 20-4 in four innings

JACKSON, Miss.(VDN) — The Vicksburg High School baseball team defeated Murrah 20-4 on the road in a game shortened to four innings by the run rule.

The Gators scored nine runs in the first inning to take early control. Nick Carson, Kobe Cartwright and Kolten Thomas each delivered two-run singles. Abel Gonzalez hit a double to drive in a run, and Jacobie Simpson added an RBI. VHS also scored multiple runs off walks in the inning.

Murrah scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the first inning on two singles and two walks.

Vicksburg capitalized on multiple Murrah errors in the second inning to extend its lead to 14-4.

Jordan Clay and Allan Allen added singles in the third inning to keep the Gators’ offense rolling. VHS closed out the game in the fourth inning with a walk and two additional runs scored on errors.

Simpson (2 RBIs), Harris (2 RBIs) and Allen (1 RBI) each recorded two hits in the win. Gonzalez had one hit. Clay (1 RBI), Carson (2 RBIs), Thomas (2 RBIs) and Harrison Fisher (2 RBIs) also finished with one hit apiece.

Thomas earned the win on the mound and struck out seven batters.

Vicksburg will travel to face St. Joseph Catholic on Friday.
