Dru Gleese wins South State title in triple jump

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Dru Gleese, a St. Aloysius track and field athlete, captured the South State Championship in the triple jump Wednesday with a leap of 39 feet, 1.5 inches. He also finished second in the long jump at 18-10.

Gleese will advance to the state meet after his performance. A week earlier, he placed first in both the triple jump and long jump at the district meet.

For St. Aloysius’ girls team, Madelyn Kavanaugh qualified for state with a third-place finish in the long jump, while Megan Theriot placed fourth in the shot put.

The MAIS state meet is scheduled for May 2 at Jackson Prep.
