Vikings advance to the second round of the playoffs; Gators season ends
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s baseball team advanced to the second round of the playoffs after defeating South Panola 6-4 on Saturday in Game 2 of the series. The Vikings also secured a win in Game 1 on Thursday to complete the sweep.
Warren Central got on the board first in the opening inning when Tristan Jamison delivered an RBI. South Panola answered with a home run to tie the game 1-1 by the end of the first.
L. Hasty helped the Vikings regain the lead in the third inning with a sacrifice that scored Trace Hood. Warren Central extended its lead in the fourth after a single by Blake Caruthers and a two-run triple from Ryan Steed made it 5-2.
The Vikings added their final run in the fifth inning when Justin Evans scored on an error. South Panola plated two late runs, but the rally fell short.
Justin Greer struck out 10 batters to lead Warren Central on the mound, while Caruthers recorded two strikeouts. Hood and Jacob Kealhofer each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Steed finished with two RBIs, while Caruthers added one. Charlie Roberts, Braxton Hartley and Caden Cole each recorded one hit.
In other action, Vicksburg High School’s season ended with a 14-1 loss to Lafayette. Allan Allen and Abel Gonzalez each recorded a hit for the Gators. Allen also struck out three batters.
