David Sanders named Vicksburg High head basketball coach
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — David Sanders has been named the new head basketball coach at Vicksburg High School, replacing longtime coach Kelvin Carter, who recently retired.
Sanders brings an extensive coaching résumé to the Gators program after compiling a 182-40 record during eight seasons at Callaway High School. During his tenure, Callaway won three state championships in 2014, 2015 and 2020. More than 30 seniors under Sanders earned scholarships to continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level.
Sanders also spent three seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he posted a 45-33 overall record. In his second season with the Wolves, Sanders guided the program to its first MACCC championship since the 1998-99 season and earned MACCC Coach of the Year honors.
Sanders also previously served as head coach at Northwest Rankin High School and Northwest Rankin Middle School. He additionally worked as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Provine High School.
This is a developing story.
