Warren Central defeats Florence 8-2 in summer softball action

The Warren Central High School softball team earned an 8-2 victory over Florence in a summer contest Tuesday night at Key City Park.

The Lady Vikes struck first in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead. MK Ferguson and Emily Muirhead both delivered doubles as Warren Central generated its first run. Mallory Spencer also contributed defensively by recording a strikeout in the inning.

Warren Central extended its advantage to 2-0 in the second inning after capitalizing on a Florence error. Spencer and Addi Mullen each collected hits during the frame.

Florence battled back in the third inning, scoring two runs to even the game at 2-2.

The Lady Vikes responded with a big fourth inning to regain control. Muirhead and Spencer each hit triples, with Spencer driving in a run. Mullen and KK Williamson added RBI doubles to build the 5-2 lead.

The Lady Vikes added three more runs in the final inning. Mullen drove in a run, while two additional runs scored on Florence errors. Williamson highlighted the inning with a triple, while Ferguson, Joli Blackard and Marie Bourne all recorded hits.

Spencer started in the circle for Warren Central, while Williamson and McKay pitched later in the game to help secure the victory.

The win continued a strong summer campaign for the Lady Vikes as they prepare for the upcoming high school season.
