WC earns 13-2 summer softball victory over Pearl

The Warren Central High School softball team picked up a 13-2 summer victory over Pearl on Thursday at Key City Park, earning its second win of the week.

Emily Muirhead led the Lady Vikes in the circle with five strikeouts. She also contributed offensively and finished among the team’s leading hitters.

Warren Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Laney Bennett delivered an RBI hit.

The Lady Vikes extended their advantage to 4-0 in the second inning. Olivia Maher drove in a run with an RBI hit, Blakely Ferguson stole home, and another run scored on a walk. Ferguson and Joli Blackard each collected hits in the inning.

Pearl got on the scoreboard in the third inning with a run scored off a walk and a steal. Warren Central answered immediately as Ferguson hit a two-run double to increase the lead to 6-2. Mallory Spencer also doubled in the inning, while Presley Brister added a hit.

The Lady Vikes put the game away in the fourth inning by scoring seven runs. Maher highlighted the inning with a three-run triple. Ferguson, Bennett and Spencer each drove in runs with hits, while Muirhead blasted an RBI double.

KK Williamson entered in relief for Warren Central in the final inning and struck out one batter to seal the 13-2 win.
