Alcorn cheerleaders earn top honors at NCA Collegiate Camp

DALLAS, Tx. (VDN) — Alcorn Cheerleading proudly represented the university at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Collegiate Camp, which took place July 17-19, at Moody Coliseum and Armstrong Fieldhouse in Dallas, Texas.
 
The event housed at Southern Methodist, was an intensive three-day curriculum led by NCA instructional staff.
 
Throughout the camp, cheerleaders received elite-level training in stunting, game day performance, crowd engagement, and collegiate cheerleading techniques while showcasing the pride and tradition of Alcorn State University, respectfully.
 
The Braves began camp on a high note by earning a Spirit Stick on day one – recognizing the team’s enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and camp spirit.
 
Day two action ensued with the team performing its Crowd Segment Routine, earning a Superior Ribbon – the highest performance rating awarded by NCA.
 
During the final day of camp, under the direction of Head Coach Dr. Timothy Queen, Alcorn continued its success by earning Superior Ribbons for both the Rally Routine and Final Crowd Segment Performance, respectively. Superior Ribbons are represented by blue ribbons and signify the highest level of performance and execution at NCA Camp.
 
In addition to these accomplishments, the Braves picked up a fourth-place honor in their division during the Rally Routine Competition, competing against various collegiate programs from across the country.
 
The team’s outstanding performances also earned Alcorn a Bronze Bid to the 2027 NCA Collegiate National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida, scheduled for April 2027.
 
“This camp was an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes to grow both individually and as a team,” remarked Queen afterwards. “I am proud of their commitment, work ethic, and the way they represented Alcorn State University, as a whole. These accomplishments are a testament to the culture we are building as we continue to elevate our program.”
 
Alcorn Cheer looks forward to building on this momentum as it prepares for the 2026–2027 season under the theme – “One Team. One Purpose. One Alcorn.”
