Crutison enters Year 2 as Port Gibson’s QB1
Ki’Montae Crutison begins his second season as Port Gibson’s starting quarterback, aiming for a state championship after a strong junior year. He looks to lead the Blue Waves in their season opener against Raymond.

Ki’Montae Crutison is entering his second season as Port Gibson High School’s starting quarterback, and the senior is prepared to embrace the responsibility that comes with leading the Blue Waves.
Coming off a breakout junior season in 2025, Crutison has high expectations for himself and Port Gibson as he begins his final high school campaign.
“We’re going to take it one game at a time, and I’m ready to lead my team and have a positive attitude as a quarterback should to keep everybody together,” Crutison said.
Crutison helped lead Port Gibson to the first round of the playoffs last season, proving to be a threat with both his arm and his legs. As a junior, he threw for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed for 615 yards and another touchdown.
Those numbers and a playoff appearance were important steps for Crutison, but he believes the Blue Waves are capable of accomplishing much more.
“Last year felt good, but I know we could’ve done better, but we now have a state championship on our minds,” Crutison said.
Crutison’s journey to becoming QB1 began long before he took his first varsity snap. He has played football since his peewee days, lining up at various positions before eventually developing into the player trusted to lead Port Gibson’s offense.
Now firmly established as the Blue Waves’ starting quarterback and one of the team’s captains, Crutison has continued to grow into the position. He has improved his ability to read the field and recognize different defensive looks, adding another dimension to his game as he prepares for his senior season.
His growth has come while playing under Port Gibson head coach Harry Brown throughout his varsity career, an opportunity Crutison does not take for granted.
“He’s a very good coach, and I’m glad he’s allowing me to lead this team,” Crutison said.
For Crutison, his senior season represents more than another year behind center. It is an opportunity to lead the teammates around him, build on what Port Gibson accomplished a year ago and pursue the championship goals the Blue Waves have set for themselves.
That journey begins Friday when Port Gibson hosts Raymond in its season opener. For Crutison, it could be the beginning of something special.
“Just watch out because PG is coming,” he said.
