VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Former Warren Central High School standout William Prince has officially been inducted into the Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletics Hall of Fame.
Prince was inducted last month alongside nine other former athletes and coaches. The inductees were introduced by VWSD Athletics Director James Lewis.
“There are numerous people I can thank for myself,” Prince said. “It’s been a privilege to play in a city that loved and embraced me as the person that I was on and off the field.”
Prince made a name for himself as a star athlete at Warren Central, excelling in both football and basketball. In 1988, he earned several prestigious football honors, including being named a Parade All-American, a Bally’s All-American and the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year.
He was also selected to the All-State first team and participated in the inaugural Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football Game.
During his high school career, Prince played under former Warren Central head coach Robert Morgan, whom he credited for trusting his abilities on the field.
“He trusted me enough to put the ball in my hand and let me go,” Prince said.
Following his successful high school career, Prince continued his football journey at Mississippi State University in 1988. He became a four-year starter for the Bulldogs and finished his college career with 15 rushing touchdowns.
Prince later transitioned into coaching, building an extensive career at the collegiate level.
From 2012 to 2016, he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and equipment manager at Alcorn State University. During his tenure, he helped the Braves capture two Southwestern Athletic Conference championships.
His accomplishments at Alcorn included helping decrease team injuries by 72% and preparing the athletic equipment budget.
Prince also held coaching positions at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Nebraska, continuing his work in developing collegiate athletes.
He currently serves as the strength and conditioning coach at Presbyterian Christian School, where he continues to help young athletes develop their skills and physical abilities.
The Bobcats recently earned a 40-18 victory over Greene County on Thursday night.
Prince’s induction into the VWSD Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes a career that began at Warren Central and has continued through decades of involvement in athletics at the high school and collegiate levels.
