Warren Central High School continued its undefeated season Friday night with a dominating 49-21 victory over Ridgeland to open district play.

The Vikings improved to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in district play after putting together another impressive offensive performance. Warren Central controlled the game early and never trailed as multiple players found the end zone.

Warren Central’s defense came out strong in the first quarter as Jonas Green picked up tackles early to help prevent Ridgeland from scoring on its opening drive.

The Vikings quickly went to work offensively with Javid Scott running aggressively against the Titans’ defense. Quarterback Nash Morgan connected with Cameron Zellous for a 20-yard gain before Scott broke loose for a 43-yard run that placed the ball at the 1-yard line.

Scott finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, and Nick Lee added the extra point to give Warren Central a 7-0 lead.

The Vikings continued to make plays on both sides of the ball as Crishun Brown recorded a tackle in the backfield. Ke’Anthony Wynn also broke loose for a 25-yard run to help keep the offense moving.

Xavier Jackson showed his physical running ability on Warren Central’s next scoring drive. Jackson followed pulling guard Braden Cooper into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown run that extended the Vikings’ lead to 14-0 after Lee’s extra point.

Warren Central carried that lead into the second quarter as the defense continued to make stops. Aiden Malone came up with a big open-field tackle on third down to help slow Ridgeland’s offense.

The Titans eventually got on the scoreboard when Braylon Presley broke loose for a 78-yard touchdown run with 5:15 remaining in the first half, cutting Warren Central’s lead to 14-7.

The Vikings wasted little time responding.

Jackson shook off Ridgeland defenders and exploded for a 70-yard run before being brought down at the 1-yard line. He finished the drive on the next play with a 1-yard touchdown run, giving Warren Central a 21-7 advantage after Lee’s kick.

Morgan also made his presence felt defensively before halftime. Playing at safety, he knocked down a pass to prevent Ridgeland from scoring again.

Warren Central went into halftime leading 21-7.

The Vikings came out of the locker room with even more momentum in the third quarter.

Scott wasted little time finding the end zone as he broke through the middle of Ridgeland’s defense for a 30-yard touchdown run. Lee’s extra point extended the lead to 28-7.

Warren Central’s special teams then came up with another big play by blocking a punt near the 10-yard line, giving the Vikings excellent field position.

Morgan took advantage of the opportunity by connecting with Devin Demby for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Lee remained perfect on extra points as Warren Central extended its lead to 35-7 with 8:03 remaining in the third quarter.

The Vikings continued to dominate defensively as T’Kylan Wright recorded a tackle in the backfield, while Paxton Lynch came up with an open-field tackle.

Morgan later delivered another big offensive play when he connected with Doss Morgan for a 55-yard touchdown pass. Lee added another extra point to push Warren Central’s lead to 42-7.

Ridgeland managed to respond late in the third quarter when Omarion Green scored on a 65-yard touchdown run with 30 seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to 42-14.

Warren Central continued to move the ball in the fourth quarter as Zellous took over at quarterback.

Braylen Selvy added to the Vikings’ scoring total with a 10-yard touchdown run. Lee converted his seventh extra point of the night to extend the lead to 49-14.

Ridgeland added one final touchdown when Dominic Bradford broke loose for a 60-yard score, bringing the final score to 49-21.

The Vikings will host Greenville High next week for homecoming.
