Annette Williams Banks Backus: 1938-2025

GEORGETOWN, TX. — Annette Williams Banks Backus, of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28. Born in Haynesville, Louisiana, on January 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late A.L. and Iris Williams. Annette grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and later attended Mississippi University for Women, where she earned a Master’s degree in Education.
Annette dedicated her life to teaching and mentoring. As an excellent elementary school teacher, she was known for her unwavering commitment to her students’ success, always striving to help them reach their full potential. Her compassion extended far beyond the classroom, as she was a tireless volunteer, particularly passionate about supporting women’s groups, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Annette is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas (Tom) Backus; her daughter, Angela Banks Six, and her husband Keith Lane, of Crawford, TX, along with their children Shelby Six and Spenser Six (fiancé Kerri Kirkpatrick); and her daughter, Kristin Banks Swisher, and her husband Charles (Chuck) Swisher, of Lexington, TX, along with their daughter Piper Swisher. She is also survived by her brother, A.L. Williams, of Choudrant, LA, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she mentored and loved dearly.
Annette was preceded in death by her first husband, William (Bill) Banks, and her siblings Felice Dye, Gairy Baker, LaVerne Watters, and Maxine Moore.
An active member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Annette’s faith was a cornerstone of her life.
At this time, no immediate services are planned in Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Annette’s memory to Faith in Action in Georgetown.
Annette’s legacy of love, kindness, and service to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
