Carlton Lamar Rone

Carlton Lamar Rone passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born August 6, 1928, in Ethel, Mississippi to Tobe V. and Mary D. Rone.

Carlton graduated from Mississippi State University College of Engineering before moving to Vicksburg, MS in 1956 where he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Waterways Experiment Station. He served in various positions during his 36 years of government service which included being a Research Civil Engineer in the Soils and Pavements Laboratory and the Chief of Construction Services. Carlton was an active member in B.P.O.E. #95 where he served as Exhaulted Ruler. As an active member of the Elk’s, he spear-headed the annual delivery of Thanksgiving baskets to over 100 needy families in Vicksburg. Carlton enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He taught all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the do’s and don’ts of growing vegetables. Carlton loved to spend time with his family, and in turn, was loved by his family more than words can express. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Carlton is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Carlton L. Rone, Jr. and Mary Frances Rone; brothers, Hubert Rone, Luther Rone, and Wally Rone; and sisters, Pauline Moore and Lorine Williams.

Carlton is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred (Millie) Rone; sister, Patricia Proctor of Kosciusko, MS; son, James Rone; daughters, Lori Evans (Greg) and Eleanor Phillips (Greg) all of Vicksburg, MS; grandchildren, Stephanie Robert (Stephen), Lisa Ravenberg (Brett), Michael Evans (Emily), John Phillips, and Laura Phillips; and great- grandchildren, Lucas, Joe, and Matthew Robert; Evelyn, Thomas, Henry, and Claire Ravenberg; and George and Issac Evans and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Glenwood Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Tim Brown officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M and burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.

Pallbearers will be Michael Evans, John Phillips, Stephen Robert, Brett Ravenberg, Bert Winschel, and John Stimage. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the B.P.O.E. #95 and Dr. Russell Barnes.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Vicksburg Catholic Schools.
