Cecil Steele Arrested for Felony Eluding; Violating Protective Order

Cecil Steele was arrested for Felony Eluding after violating a Protection Order on Hankinson Road.
Tuesday evening, Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a location on Hankinson Road for a man who was violating a protective order.
“On July 16, we received a 911 call from someone in the 2000 block of Hankinson Road, which is in the Jeff Davis community. She was reporting that someone she had a protective order on was at the residence where she was and she asked that deputies be dispatched,” said Sheriff Pace. “Deputies found that she did not live there but was housesitting for an acquaintance when this individual appeared at the house. Deputies were close in the area anyway and were dispatched. As they were dispatched they actually met the vehicle that met the description she provided, a green Ford Mustang. He attempted to elude the deputies reaching speeds at one point of 90 an hour. He attempted to make a turn west onto Dogwood Road where he lost control of the vehicle, jumped out and ran on foot. The deputy that was behind him gave chase on foot but lost site of him in the thickly wooded area.”
According to the victim of the protective order, “He broke into the house. He broke a window, came inside and we had an altercation, arguing, he pushed me around. He came back later in the night, was in the yard hollering and then he left. That is when I called the police.” VDN is protecting the name of the victim.
The search continued for some time, “We were there throughout Tuesday night, we utilized the Sheriff’s Department K-9 as well as a County Fire Department drone that was brought to the scene by Fire Chief Jerry Briggs. All this to no avail,” said Pace. “Yesterday at approximately 7 p.m., Sergeant Ray Thompson, Deputy Dusty Keyes and his K-9 partner and I were checking the area on Hankinson Road when we located the suspect in a camper in a mobile home in a deer camp in the 600 block of Hankinson Road. Deputy Keyes originally made contact.”
Steele, 43, was arrested without incident and appeared today before Judge Randy Lewis who set bond at $5000. Additionally, a hold was placed on Steele for a warrant out of Bude, Mississippi related to unfinished construction work.
While the protective order was issued out of Louisiana, under Mississippi State Law, a protective order issued anywhere in the United States is enforceable in Mississippi if you violate it. Mississippi honors other states protective orders but does not take over jurisdiction. Steele’s violation here is a misdemeanor charge.
Sheriff Pace made a point to clarify, “At no time did we feel the citizens of that area were in danger. He was there trying to re-establish some contact with that female. He ran because he didn’t want to go to jail. At no time was there an indication he was armed, but because of the fact that is was a domestic violence situation, we stayed on it until he was arrested and he is now in the Warren County Jail. We appreciate the cooperation of people in the community because we did receive several calls of citing’s of him and were able to keep deputies in the area to keep him contained him until we could locate him and take him into custody.”
“We appreciate the cooperation of the people in the Jeff Davis area,” said Pace.
