Convicted sex offender has probation revoked and re-sentenced

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A convicted sex offender had his probation revoked and was re-sentenced in Warren County Circuit Court on Wednesday morning. Judge James Chaney sentenced Marvin Dwayne Reed to 14 years, with seven years to serve—the remaining time left on his probation.
Reed’s probation was revoked after he led Warren County sheriff’s deputies on a chase in May 2024 and failed to register as a sex offender.
Reed spoke at his sentencing, claiming that deceased individuals had been communicating with him. He also said he had photos on his phone of the deceased who were “telling him things.” Reed testified that he had been experiencing paranormal activity and described it as “spiritual warfare.”
In 2021, Reed was convicted of molestation.
On May 27, 2024, Deputy Michael Whitley spotted Reed drinking liquor from a bottle while driving an ATV near Interstate 20. When Reed failed to stop, a pursuit began involving both the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Vicksburg Police Department. The chase continued through the Hamilton Heights area before Vicksburg police ended their pursuit as Reed entered the county.
When Reed reached Lee Circle, he jumped off the ATV, prompting Deputies Whitley, Dustin Keyes and Joseph Stubbs to chase and apprehend him shortly afterward.
During the pursuit, Reed struck Deputy Stubbs’ patrol vehicle twice. He was charged with felony fleeing, DUI, two counts of hit-and-run, and multiple traffic violations.
Following his arrest, officials discovered that Reed, a registered sex offender in Hinds County, had listed a Warren County address. He was additionally charged with failure to re-register as a sex offender.
