Cooper Earned Game-Winning Run on Senior Night to beat ACCS
St. Aloysius softball team celebrated Senior Night in style as they earned a 6-5 win over Adams County Christian School. Senior Kyleigh Cooper got the game-winning run on her big night.
“The joy I got from that and the excitement is unreal,” Cooper said. “We never gave up and we fought to the last inning and it’s been a wonderful senior night.”
The first five innings were a battle of the pitchers as Cooper and Lily McDonald(ACCS) both took turns sending batters back to the dugout. By the sixth inning, the Lady Rebels got their bats hot as they hit two doubles and two singles which led to them going up 5-0.
The Lady Flashes refused to go down without a fight as they stepped up to bat. Megan Theriot hit a single which was followed by a double from Cooper that put St. Al on the board. A few swings later Ruthie Britton hit a two-run inside-the-park home run to put the score at 5-3 heading into the seventh.
Cooper didn’t allow any runs in the seventh which gave the Lady Flashes plenty of hope as they went up to bat. Kennadi Blassingame hit a single to get on base then Madison Spencer changed the game with a nice two-run double that tied the score at five and forced an extra inning.
Cooper retired the next three of ACC’s batters and St. Al only needed one run to win the game. Presley Brister would hit a single that put Kyleigh on third base. Madelyn Kavanaugh then hit a ground ball as Cooper sprinted to home plate and gave her team the win.
Theriot and Brister both went 2 for 4 while Britton(2 RBIs), Madison Spencer(2 RBIs), Cooper(1 RBI), and Blassingame each had one hit.
Cooper also struck out two batters in the win.
The Lady Flashes will host Copiah Academy on Tuesday.
