Domestic violence outweighs all other crimes in Vicksburg’s 2025 totals
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Domestic violence continues to be the highest portion of Vicksburg’s crime numbers in 2025, accounting for 41.2% of all reported crime within the city limits, according to Vicksburg Police Department statistics covering January through July.
Police recorded 152 cases of domestic violence since the beginning of the year—nearly half of all reported crime, making it the city’s largest single crime category. The monthly totals of reported domestic violence ranged from a low of 13 in March to a peak of 26 in May.
Aggravated assaults were the next most frequent violent crime with 38 reported, led by 11 incidents in January. Other violent crime included four reported rapes and a single carjacking. Police reported one murder in March.
On the property crime side, auto burglaries stood out with 91 cases. Of those, 70% involved unlocked vehicles, compared to 30% where cars had been secured. All seven of the recorded auto burglaries for the month of July were from unsecured vehicles.
Residential burglaries reached 31 cases, while business burglaries accounted for 19. Auto thefts totaled 25, with seven reported in July alone. Robberies remained low, with seven incidents in the seven-month period.
Through the first seven months of 2025, Vicksburg has recorded 368 major crimes. The breakdown in descending order of number of cases includes:
- Domestic violence: 152 cases
- Auto Burglary: 91
- Aggravated assault: 38 cases
- Residential burglary: 31 cases
- Auto theft: 25 cases
- Business Burglary: 19 cases
- Robbery: 7 cases
- Rape: 4 cases
- Murder/manslaughter: 1 case
- Carjacking: 1 case
- Kidnapping: 0 cases
January remains the busiest month so far with 66 reported crimes, while March was the quietest with 38 cases.
The data shows that while violent crimes such as murder and rape have remained rare, domestic violence and property crimes — particularly auto-related theft and burglary — continue to drive the city’s monthly totals.
