Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration to be held Jan 20.

VICKSBURG, Miss. – A community-wide program honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, at 5 p.m. in the Ardis T. Williams Sr. Auditorium, 901 Monroe St. This year’s observance marks what would have been Dr. King’s 96th birthday and the 39th national holiday in his honor.

The event, themed “Remember, Celebrate, Act,” is sponsored by the Dr. King Memorial Day Committee and the city of Vicksburg in partnership with the First Mississippi Chapter of Blacks In Government and the NAACP Vicksburg Branch.

The Honorable Oscar Denton, representative for Mississippi House District 55, will serve as the guest speaker. Entertainment will be provided by the Vicksburg High School Madrigals, under the direction of Erica Wheeler. Cameron Nailor, a senior at Vicksburg High School, will act as the master of ceremonies.

The program is free and open to the public.
