Former Vicksburg resident killed in a Kansas car crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Kansas(VDN)—A former Vicksburg resident was involved in a fatal crash that took place in Douglas County, Kansas.
The single-rollover crash took place on Friday night just north of Lawrence, Kansas. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Benjamin Eddie Thomas Brooks.
Brooks attended Warren Central High School and was living in Topeka, Kansas, at the time of the crash. Brooks served in the U.S. Army and worked in the electrical field. He leaves behind a wife and child.
A 22-year-old Topeka man died after a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday night north of Lawrence.
A Lawrence police officer, after 11 p.m. located the vehicle, a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, in a field near Midland Junction, near U.S. Highway 24-59 and N 2000 Road. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, and the officer, deputies, and medics attempted life-saving measures at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office has notified family members and identified the driver as Benjamin Eddie Thomas Brooks of Topeka.
The DGSO Crash Reconstruction Team has examined the scene and will complete a crash report. At this time, a preliminary indication is that the driver missed the curve, and there is no evidence to suggest any other vehicles were involved.
