Hinds took down Pearl River CC in overtime

RAYMOND Miss. – The Hinds Community College Football team used a strong rushing attack and stout defensive effort to earn the 34-27 overtime win on homecoming against Pearl River CC.

Hinds got on the board first when Julius Bradley broke free for a 62-yard rushing touchdown as Hinds took the early 7-0 advantage. Hinds’ defense held strong for the remainder of the quarter as the hosts led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Within a minute and 15 seconds into the second quarter, the Wildcats scored a 42-yard rushing touchdown to level the contest up at 7-7. Hinds quickly orchestrated a 4-play 80-yard drive when Jabari Watson found Tyrell Pollard in stride for the touchdown to take the 13-7 lead with 11:37 left in the first half. Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the second quarter as the Eagles led the Wildcats 13-7 going into the halftime break.

Coming out of the halftime break, Hinds used a 6 play, 70-yard drive to cap off a rushing touchdown by Jabari Watson to extend the lead to 20-7. Hinds continued to keep their foot on the pedal when Nick Thompson punched in a 6-yard touchdown to bring the score to 27-7. With 3:47 remaining in the third quarter, the visitors grab a touchdown but missed the PAT to make the score 27-13. The score remained the same for the rest of the third quarter as Hinds led 27-20 going into the final quarter of regulation.

After a couple of some strong defensive stands, the Wildcats cut the lead to one score after a pick-six to cut the lead to seven points. PRCC put together a 9 play, 80-yard touchdown drive to tie the ballgame up with 3:20 left in the contest. Neither team could score before the horn sounded as the game was forced to overtime with the score being tied 27-27.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by a strong rushing attack in the contest. Julius Bradleyled all rushers with20 rushes for 146 yards and one touchdown. Jabari Watson also broke the century mark with 112 rushing yards and one touchdown. Rounding out the rushing attack for the Eagles was Nick Tompson, who picked up 41 rushing yards and a TD, while Jayden Reed finished the night with 21 rushing yards. As a team, Hinds grabbed 320 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Tyrell Pollard led the receiving corps with one reception for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Demar Gardner brought in two receptions for 38 yards and a score.

Defensively, TJ Kelly led Hinds with 15 total tackles with 1.5 TFL, one sack, and one forced fumble. William Harry also had double-digit tackles with 12 total. Aven Kelley was a force to PRCC’s offensive line earning 2.5 TFL and two sacks in the win. Kearris Gilliam had the lone interception for the Hinds’ defense and totaled six tackles in the 34-27 overtime win.

Hinds will return to action on Thursday, October 31 when they travel to Perkinston to take on #7 MGCCC in the season finale. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
