WCHS Freshmen boys’ basketball team defeated VHS on Monday
VICKSBURG, MS – Warren Central High School‘s (WCHS) freshmen boys’ basketball team defeated Vicksburg (VHS) 35-30 on Monday night.
The Vikings came out early, taking a 9-8 lead, after Landen Burks got them on the board. Montrell Cook knocked down a 3-pointer for VHS. By halftime, the Gators had reclaimed the lead, 16-13, after a 3-pointer by Jordan Cruithirds.
Coming out of halftime, Jamal Washington, Jaylen Defrance, and Burks all made multiple shots for Warren Central. Deonta Selvy Jr. and Jaylen Stewart both hit key shots but the Vikings took the lead.
Defense on both sides was crucial in the fourth quarter with only 11 total points scored.
For the WCHS Freshmen, DeFrance led with 13 points and Washington added 10. Burks put up 8 points while Jordan Pugh and Tyreek Wheeler both scored 2 points each.
For VHS, Selvy and Stewart both scored 7 points while Cook and Cruithirds both added 5. Justin Williams and Jaden Stewart both scored 2 points. Jamari Johnson and Corbin Walker both hit a free throw.
