VJHS opened their season with a win over WCJHS
Vicksburg Junior High School girls’ basketball team opened their season with a 38-18 win over Warren Central Junior High.
The Missy Gators came out in the first quarter and took a 10-0 lead as Aaliyah Mims and Alaina Williams both made a couple of shots. The second quarter started off slow for both teams until the final three minutes when the Lady Vikes began to score, beginning with a shot from Laney Bennett. Torreigh Lewis Madelyn Wallace, and Skyla Cosby also hit some late shots as WC trailed 11-9 at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Missy Gators quickly got back to scoring as Mims and Williams took over once again to help VJHS maintain their lead. Keasia Hatchett also made two shots for VJHS while Da’Mariya Cosby and Wallace got on the board for WC.
The Missy Gators were up 26-14 at the start of the fourth but Williams continued to dominate along with Hatchett and Mims who earned some successful layups.
Williams led VJHS with 14 points and Mims added 13 on the board. Hatchett put up seven points and Ke’Andra Turner hit a free throw.
Wallace led the Lady Vikes with six points while Lewis and Da’Mariya Cosby both put up five. Skyla Cosby and Bennett each had two points.
