“I just want to help my city”: Warren Central grad launches pressure washing business
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — For Ke’sean Smith, pressure washing isn’t just a side hustle — it’s a way to clean up his city while building a future for himself.
The recent Warren Central graduate launched his own pressure washing business just two weeks ago, inspired by a simple idea that struck him while driving around Vicksburg.
“One day I was just driving, thinking about what I could do to help the community and make some money at the same time,” Smith said. “I was looking, and thought ‘it needs a little cleaning up around here.’ We had a pressure washer at the house, and I figured I could start a pressure washing company that would make the city look better and to make a little money on the side.”
So far, he’s already landed a few clients.
Smith, 18, works at Popeyes, a job he’s held since December 2022, just two days after Christmas. He plans to keep that role while growing his business, at least until winter slows down the pressure washing demand.
“I’m planning to add on lawn care and weed control services too,” said Smith. “I’ve got some poison that’ll kill the weeds growing on buildings and stuff. Just trying to stay busy and build something.”
Eventually, Smith plans to attend the Fire Academy — a long-term goal he’s working toward while keeping his finances in check. His motivation is personal.
“I really just want to get my life together and help my mom out,” he said. “There’s not much to do around here, but I know things will get better. I want to be part of that change — bring something to the community once I’m in a better position.”
The youngest of nine siblings, Smith shares the house with his parents, while the rest of his siblings have moved out and started their own lives. Still, he gets visits from nieces and nephews that keep the place lively.
As for pricing his services, Smith keeps it flexible.
“I’m not trying to charge an arm and a leg,” he said. “I understand times are hard. I’ll come out, take a look at the property, and we’ll work something out. I just want to be fair and do good work.”
Born and raised in Vicksburg, Smith is betting on himself — using what he has, learning as he goes, and keeping his heart in the right place.
“I know I can do good for myself,” he said. “I’m just trying to make my own path.”
