Investigator testifies killing was gang retaliation on third day of Henderson murder trial

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —

Former Vicksburg Police Department Investigator Eddie Colbert testified Wednesday that the 2022 killing of Reginald Rogers Jr. was a gang-related retaliation homicide stemming from an earlier killing.

Christopher Henderson Jr. is on trial this week in Warren County Circuit Court in connection with Rogers’ death. Rogers was shot and killed in Vicksburg in 2022.

Colbert, who investigated the case while employed by the Vicksburg Police Department, told jurors that his investigation revealed an ongoing feud between two groups known as the “Low End Boys” and the “Cairo Boys.”

According to Colbert’s testimony, Henderson was affiliated with the Cairo Boys, while Rogers was associated with the Low End Boys.

Colbert testified that Kameron Logan, who he identified as an affiliate of the Cairo Boys, had been killed before Rogers’ death. He told the jury that Henderson and Logan were friends and that Henderson killed Rogers in retaliation for Logan’s death.

Jurors also viewed a music video featuring Henderson. Colbert testified that Henderson is seen in the video saying, “Boom Boom this for bro,” the same phrase he allegedly says in a Snapchat video recorded after Rogers was killed. Colbert also testified that Henderson is shown holding what appeared to be an AR-style firearm in the music video.

Colbert told the jury he believed the video depicted the participants acting out how a murder would be committed. According to his testimony, the video was released months before Rogers’ death.

During cross-examination, defense attorney Tracie Herring challenged Colbert’s investigation, arguing that he mishandled evidence by failing to include two witness statements in the case file.

Colbert testified that he did not include the statements because he later determined they were untrue, although he documented the individuals’ information.

Herring also questioned Colbert about his role in the investigation, asking whether he was an attorney and whether he determined what is evidence in criminal cases.

Assistant District Attorneys Michael Warren and Branan Southerland are prosecuting the case on behalf of the state.

Wednesday marked the third day of testimony in Henderson’s trial.
