Jaunita Childers: 1931-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Jaunita Douglas Childers passed from this life on Monday, June 16th at Heritage House.  She has lived a long, full life, recently reaching the age of 94.

She was a 1949 graduate of Culkin Academy, and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She began her working career after graduating from high school at S H Kress in Vicksburg, and met her future husband, Bobby Ray Childers, while working there.  They married soon after, and for the next years that followed, she was a stay at home mom to her two sons, Wayne and Danny!  When the boys reached their toddler and school aged years, she returned to the work force at the Valley Dry Goods store, where she managed the Men’s Department for many years, until the Valley closed it’s doors for good.  She then retired from the public work force and started doing what she really loved… keeping her yard manicured.

She was also quite the lover of animals… all kinds… but most especially cats and dogs.

Jaunita was proceeded in death by her parents, Bob and Hettie Lou Douglas, and her brother, Gene Douglas.

The word must have been out because strays seemed to always find her house at will on Douglas Road.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Childers, two sons, David Wayne Childers and Danny Ray Childers (Jeanie), Sister, Annie Douglas Warnock, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a hearty thanks to the staff at Heritage House and to Pax Hospice for the wonderful care given to their loved one during these past days, weeks and months of her life.

Bobby has lost the love of his life.  Wayne and Danny have lost their Mother, and grandchildren have lost a “Nannie”.  They’re all aching inside, just wanting to talk to her one more time. And yet, God knows how you feel right now. He’s the only one who really does, no matter how many others claim to know. God made that heart of yours that is now shattered. Give him your cares.

Funeral services will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Childers, Kirkland Childers, Shawn Childers, Ethan Childers, Evan Childers and Peyton McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray McCaskill and Ronnie Davis.
