Kinfolk, Alderman Mayfield launch The People’s Pantry Food Drive
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Kinfolk, a Vicksburg-based nonprofit organization dedicated to community empowerment and economic equity, has announced the launch of The People’s Pantry, a citywide food drive created to provide relief to local families facing food insecurity amid uncertainty surrounding SNAP and other essential social programs.
In partnership with the Ward I Alderman TJ Mayfield, the initiative invites residents to donate nonperishable food items between now and Friday, Nov. 21, with all collected items distributed to local churches and community organizations serving families and individuals in need.
Donation Drop-Off Locations:
- Vicksburg Intermediate School
- Mississippi State University Extension Office
- City Hall – Alderman TJ Mayfield’s Office and First Floor
“As social programs across the country face new challenges, our community can respond with compassion and action,” said Brooke B. Williams, founder and Executive Director of Kinfolk. “The People’s Pantry is a reminder that we can create our own safety nets—neighbor to neighbor, church to community, city to citizen. When we share, we strengthen.”
Alderman TJ Mayfield, representing the City of Vicksburg, added, “This effort shows what’s possible when city leaders and residents come together. It’s about meeting people where they are and making sure no one in our city goes without.”
Residents are encouraged to donate items such as canned vegetables, beans, meats, soups, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, boxed meals, and shelf-stable milk. All donations must be unopened, non-expired, and in durable packaging.
Food collected through The People’s Pantry will be distributed on Friday, Nov. 21, ensuring local families have access to food and resources ahead of the holiday season.
