Lauren Bussey celebrates 20 years of Lauren Bussey Designs
Lauren Bussey of Lauren B Designs is celebrating 20 years in the alterations business.
But she does so much more. Lauren B Designs does everything from alterations to Easter baskets to monogramming, drapes, and so much more. In a post on social media, Bussey said”
“WOW!! 20 Years in Business Lauren B Designs ! I have been sewing for half of my life, I started sewing in 2002. (Home Ec for a brief six weeks in 1994) Over the years, projects have evolved year to year: Easter baskets, monogramming, drapes, bedding, custom hunting clothes, upholstery, bedding, cannon covers, dog tuxedos, custom children’s clothes, Christmas stockings and decorating, alterations, lots of alterations~prom, HOCO, pageant, wedding, new job clothes, funerals, and everything in between~, giving an antique wedding dress new life for a young bride to wear for reception or rehearsal dinner or a new baby to wear grandmother’s wedding dress reworked for a christening gown. So many projects, pictures, and pictures have forgotten to be taken.
But in all of the above projects, the people associated with these projects have made the last twenty years extraordinary!!
These days, all the crazy custom projects have given way to alterations. Although I miss doing the upholstery and home interior, there is something extra special about alterations. It’s not just alterations; it is tailoring and customizing each piece of clothing or project to fit each customer’s body type and personal style to create something unique for them. It’s about seeing a beautiful dress perfect for prom but making a simple change like moving the straps off the shoulder to transform the gown into a gown fit for the red carpet but, better yet to give the girl wearing the gown the confidence to walk down a red carpet.
One of my teenagers came into the shop last week and said, “ The second I walk through the shop door, [let out a deep sigh in relief] I feel no judgment.” That is what it is all about…feeling comfortable and relaxed when coming to get fitting for your clothes, no matter if it is in preparation for the Miss America stage, needing clothes let out or taken in, getting new clothes that don’t quite fit the new mom body, having clothes that have never quite fit correct, having a dream idea for a dress but can’t quite find the right one. My goal is always to make the clothes look like they were never altered and yet fit to perfection. (I’ll try to find some good before and after pics)
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS SUPPORTED ME THROUGH THIS JOURNEY (especially those waiting on quotes right now…they are coming!!) I TRULY COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!! I celebrated my birthday this week, thinking about the shop’s 20th anniversary, as each person wished me a happy birthday. It was so very cool to see how each person impacted my life and this gift that I have been given. As we live day to day, we do not alway see the plan or the path, Lord knows I had no idea this is where I would be, or how much of an impact someone has on our life. An event or a meeting so small and what you think is insignificant can have a huge impact looking back. To my North Carolina people, there are WAY to many to name but you all know who you are, I can not thank you enough for making NC feel like home!! You will never know how much you all truly mean to me!!
Alright, back to sewing…it’s prom, spring wedding season, AND Pageant season!!!“
