‘Let’s Grow Together:’ Alcorn Extension Program lends a hand
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — “Let’s Grow Together,” presented by the Alcorn Extension Program, was held at Julia’s Memorial Community Garden this morning, where members of the extension program and guests shared growing tips and advice on how to spot and identify plant deficiencies.
The program included a hands-on seed-starting demonstration, including inexpensive ways to check the pH balance of the soil, nitrogen deficiencies, and diseases, led by Dr. Emran Ali.
“Let’s Grow Together” is a three-part, hands-on workshop series designed to help build healthy soil, grow thriving vegetables, and connect with fellow growers in the community.
Julia’s Garden, located on East Street near its intersection with Cherry Street, honors Charlie Gholson’s daughter, Julia, who lost her battle with cancer. After her passing, the house Julia lived in sat vacant for a number of years. Gholson cleared and donated the land where Julia’s house once stood.
