Check presented to Haven House staff from doctors at Merit Health River Region

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Merit Health River Region, in honor of its medical staff, donated $6,000 to Haven House Family Shelter in recognition of National Doctors’ Day. The donation reflects the hospital’s commitment to supporting both its patients and the broader community.

Observed annually on March 30, National Doctors’ Day acknowledges the contributions of physicians and medical professionals in patient care. This year, the hospital’s medical staff selected Haven House Family Shelter, which provides critical support for victims of domestic and family violence in Vicksburg, to receive the donation.

Haven House offers crisis intervention, emergency shelter, outreach programs, court advocacy, counseling, education, and referrals for victims and their children. Given that domestic violence is the most reported crime in Vicksburg, the physicians sought to assist the organization in its mission to help victims rebuild their lives.

“Our physicians are not only pillars of healthcare but also of our community,” said Trevor Spradling, assistant CEO of Merit Health River Region. “They chose to support Haven House Family Shelter, reflecting their deep commitment to addressing urgent social issues such as domestic violence. We are proud to make this donation in their honor, enabling Haven House to continue its critical work.”

On March 27, hospital leadership presented the donation to Haven House. The funds will go toward improving sanitary sleeping conditions for women and children, including purchasing mattress covers and making necessary repairs and upgrades to the shelter.

Merit Health River Region is home to Mississippi’s first accredited Chest Pain Center and the state’s first digital mammography center.
